A successful leafhopper hunt!
Sandra, Anna and Piotr have successfully sampled leafhoppers near the Institute of Environmental Sciences. We've caught multiple individuals of our target species. They will be used for fluorescent microscopy, long-read symbiont genome sequencing, as well as a population screen for an unusual bacterial symbiont that lives inside cells of another bacterial symbiont.

We're back in lab!
The lab is back to full operational capacity after COVID-related restrictions. And the latest amplicon sequencing run on the institutional Illumina MiSeq resulted in some of the cleanest 2 x 300 bp read data we have ever seen! The data will allow us to progress on several projects.

New paper - taxonomy of cicada pathogens!
Piotr contributed to a collaborative paper in the journal Mycologia exploring the relationships among drug-producing, behavior-manipulating, sexually transmissible pathogenic fungi that attack different cicadas.

OT-2 on board!
Our Opentrons OT-2 robot has finally arrived in Kraków!
It didn't take us long to get it to start pipetting the way we wanted. We are excited about what we can do in 2020!
