In June, lab members presented their research at two conferences in the field of host-microbe symbioses: the Wolbachia meeting in Greece, and Gordon Research Conference in Animal-Microbe Symbioses in Italy.
Karol Nowak attended the Wolbachia 2023 meeting in Crete, Grece. He gave an oral presentation entitled “Two birds with one stone: Validating COI barcoding as a low cost, high throughput, and high resolution method of Wolbachia screening across insects”
Catalina, Junchen and Piotr have all attended the GRC Animal-Microbe Symbioses meeting in the beautiful Toscany region of Italy, and gave poster presentations, respectively:
"Genomic similarities and differences among closely related bacterial strains infecting ants, beetles, fish, and whales."
"The chaos of extremely fragmented symbiotic complexes in a clade of planthoppers"
"How to track a facultative endosymbiont across multi-species insect communities?"
Lots of new contacts, inspirations, and upcoming collaborations!
