A collaborative paper between our group and Insect Biome Atlas research group, and led by Ela Iwaszkiewicz-Eggebrecht, has just been published!
Ela has led efforts to optimize methods for high-throughput insect community characterization using metabarcoding - as a collaboration between our laboratory and the Swedish Museum of Natural History. One of the publications resulting from this work, "Optimizing insect metabarcoding using replicated mock communities", has just been published in the journal Methods in Ecology and Evolution!
In the paper, we have developed and used mock insect communities to identify methods of DNA extraction that provide the most accurate picture of multi-species insect communities in metabarcoding experiments.
